Test, ODI or T20 cricket, it didn’t matter! It feels like he came to this earth to make us all happy across all formats of the game of cricket and for true Mahendra Singh Dhoni fans, we knew that this sad day wasn’t going to be too far away. As of 19:29 hours IST today, the former Indian cricket captain announced his retirement from international cricket.

It was July 2019 when MSD last donned the Indian jersey when he fell inches short of the crease in the ICC 2019 World Cup semi final against New Zealand. That folks, will be the last memory we will have of the living legend playing for the country. A classy and inspiring cricket journey has come to an end, as of today!

Ever since that last appearance in the World Cup in England, there has been continuous chatter and rumours abut MS Dhoni’s retirement but we knew that nothing was certain until the great man said so himself. However, he did have his say today, taking to Instagram to announce the end of his cricketing journey for Team India.

It was 2014 when he decided to call it quits from the longest form of the game and since then, he only represented India in the ODI and T20I formats of the game. He posted a ‘Thank You’ note on his Instagram handle today to announce his decision but the fact is that he shouldn’t thank us, but we should thank him. Thank you, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

His caption read “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired” His goodbye came as a very simple one, as you would’ve expected. Knowing MSD, a grand farewell was never on the cards but as fans, you could only wish that you’d get a chance to see him playing another match for Team India.

350 ODIs and 98 T2oIs under his belt, there’s nothing MSD hasn’t accomplished personally as well as for the team and every single soul who loves cricket will remember this day. There’s been no official word from Dhoni after his social post but we can expect a press conference in the days to come.

His video post was a truly emotional one where he played a carousel of images – an assortment of images of his journey for Team India, right from his early days to bagging a duck on his international debut to all the highs he reached. The Hindi music in the background will surely leave cricket ans emotional.
