As of 19:29 hours IST today, the former Indian cricket captain announced his retirement from international cricket.
It was July 2019 when MSD last donned the Indian jersey when he fell inches short of the crease in the ICC 2019 World Cup semi final against New Zealand. It was 2014 when he decided to call it quits from the longest form of the game and since then, he only represented India in the ODI and T20I formats of the game. He posted a ‘Thank You’ note on his Instagram handle today to announce his decision but the fact is that he shouldn’t thank us, but we should thank him. Thank you, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
His caption read “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired” His goodbye came as a very simple one, as you would’ve expected. Knowing MSD, a grand farewell was never on the cards but as fans, you could only wish that you’d get a chance to see him playing another match for Team India.
