Today, we’re listing down the top wicket-takers in ICC T20 World Cup history.
As you’ve seen in the results in terms of winning nations over the years, the Asian teams have done exceedingly well in this format at the highest level. Similarly in the individual performers’ lists, we see a lot of Asian dominance. In this T20 World Cup highest wicket-takers list too, all of the top six bowlers belong to Asian nations. From these, there’s been a spin dominance, with four of the top five being spinners.

Topping the list is the talisman of Bangladesh cricket, who is also very high up on the T20 WC run scorer list. We’re talking about left-arm spinner Shakib al Hasan who is at the top with 41 scalps and will stay at the top as there’s only one other current cricketer on this list. Shakib is set to enjoy his top spot on this list because he’s one of just two players playing the 2022 T20 World Cup, and we last updated this list at the start of this tournament which is the eighth edition of the T20 WC. Ravichandran Ashwin is the only other current player on the list and this guy has got 26 scalps in just 18 games, having played the least games from players on this list, also with the best economy rate of 6.01!
In terms of the 4-fers, Shakib leads the list along with Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal as the only two players to have three 4-fers each in their T20 World Cup careers while the only players from this list to have 5-fers in this tournament are Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis, and Umar Gul. Mendis holds the record for the best bowling spell in this competition, finishing with 6/8.
Players to have narrowly missed the list of top ten highest wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup include Samuel Badree, Morne Morkel, and Micthell Starc, with the latter still having a chance to climb the ranks in this tournament, come the 2022 T20 World Cup.
