ICC T20 World Cup – Most Runs List

While the ICC 50-over World Cup debuted way back in 1975, the ICC T20 World Cup first took place much later as this was the newest and shortest format of the game. However, players started going down in history as they got to play at this stage more often than in the 50-over World Cup, as the shortest format takes place on the global level once in two years instead of every four years.

We’ve spoken a lot about the top performers in this tournament and that includes listing down all the T20 World Cup winners from start till date. On the individual front, some batsmen and bowlers have outperformed everyone else and today, we’re going to dive into a list of some of the top batsmen in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup.

ICC T20 World Cup - Most Runs List

As you can see that the Asian teams have done the best in the T20 World Cup over the years, it’s similarly the Asian batsmen who are among the top run scorers in this tournament’s history. Topping the list is Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene who has as many as six fifties and a century to his name in this tournament. He’s currently the only player on this list to have 1,000+ runs in the T20 World Cup and by the looks of it, he’ll continue to stay at the top for a couple of editions, as the next two players on the list are also retired from international duties.

In terms of centuries, only Chris Gayle has two centuries in the T20 World Cup and in terms of fifties, India’s Virat Kohli leads the pack in terms of the most fifties in the competition (ten), batting with an outstanding average of 76.81 which is not only the best on this list but it’s also double the next best on this list of the top 10 T20 World Cup run scorers.

Gayle leads the list for the most sixes in the tournament’s history (63) while in terms of boundaries, two players have hit 100+ boundaries in the competition, with Jayawardene on top of this list with 111 fours. Kohli, AB de Villiers and Shoaib Malik are the only three players on this list who have not been dismissed for a duck in their T20 World Cup respective careers.

New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill narrowly missed out on making this top ten most runs list for the T20 World Cup but the latter can still climb his way up at the 2022 T20 World Cup.
