Suryakumar Yadav Gets Fifty in Debut International Knock

You dream all your life of making an international appearance for your country in a sport and if it goes well, there’s no better feeling! Such was the case for Mumbai’s Suryakumar Yadav a few days back when he won an international cap in the 2nd T20I against England in Ahmedabad. Unluckily for him though, it was an easy chase for the home side and Surya wasn’t even required with the bat that night.

Suryakumar Yadav Gets Fifty in Debut International Knock

The bad luck continued as he was dropped for the 3rd T20I and it was only 4 days later when he got to actually bat for Team India. It was the 4th T20 and batting first, Surya aka ‘Sky’ was sent in to bat ahead of the captain at #3, where he made the most of the opportunity indeed. Life gave him lemons and he squeezed them well alright!

In fact, he went at it right from his first delivery in international cricket, which was a hook shot over the fine leg boundary for a big six. And what better than doing so against Jofra Archer who is one of the quickest bowlers in world cricket at the moment. From there, he grew from strength to strength and started hitting the ball to every corner of the ground.

Spinners or seamers, he didn’t care as he went on to impress in his debut international knock. He went on to even score fifty in his first technical appearance, though it doesn’t count as his debut. He scored a 28-ball fifty and threatened to cut loose post that. His first scoring shot post that fifty was a ramp over fine leg for another six off the bowling of Sam Curran.

Soon later, he went again in the same direction but this time was caught on the boundary by Dawid Malan. The catch was certainly a doubtful one as one camera angle showed the ball hitting the ground but we think the soft signal may have favoured the touring side. He was dismissed for 57(31) and we think this is one of many such great knocks to come in the blue jersey for India. Well played Sky!
