SunRisers Hyderabad have retained their former captain David Warner ahead of the IPL 2019 auction. He missed out on the whole last season owing to the 12-month ban imposed by Cricket Australia following the ball-tampering incident that came into limelight during the Test series in South Africa in March earlier this year.
Warner led SRH to title victory in the year 2016 and it is no surprise that they have retained him in the squad despite not featuring in the IPL 2018 season. In his absence, Kane Williamson donned the captain’s hat and had a successful stint in 2018 both as a player and a captain.
Cricket Australia have announced that their players won’t be completely available for the IPL 2019 season and on the other hand New Zealand made their players available for the complete IPL 2019 season. Considering these two announcements, it would be interesting to watch who between Warner and Williamson will be appointed as Sun Risers captain in IPL 2019!
Meanwhile, SRH released injured Wriddhiman Saha who is also out of the Indian Test team for quite some time now with injuries. In his 11 games for SRH last season, Saha scored 122 runs at an average of just over 15. SRH also released Sachin Baby, Tanmay Agarwal, Bipul Sharma and Mehdi Hassan; none of these players got a game in the last season.
David Warner, Kane Williamson, Billy Stanlake, Shakib Al Hasan, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi are the six overseas players in the Sun Risers squad at the moment. They still have 5 slots available in their squad out of which 3 are of for Indian players and two are for overseas players.
