Almost every country has now announced their playing squads for the upcoming ICC 2020 T20 World Cup and West Indies also recently announced their 15-member squad to this tournament which is set to take place in the UAE in October 2021. Much like every other country’s squad announcements, a lot of questions have been asked about the West Indies T20 WC selection as well.
For starters, Sunil Narine has been completely left out of the squad as well as the list of reserves for the T20 World Cup 2020. He’s been one of the most sought after T20 cricketers for almost a decade now and of late, he’s added batting prowess to his abilities, with most T20 franchises using him as an opening batter at times as well.
Another major shocker was all-rounder and former captain Jason Holder not making the cut in the 15-man squad for the 2020 World T20. Captaining his CPL franchise, Holder has been a great addition to T20 sides across the world and is a super useful batsman as well. However, he’s part of the 4 members who will be taken as travelling reserves to UAE.
Kieron Pollard will be leading the side and quite a few players make a comeback including Chris Gayle, Andre Fletcher and others. The biggest comeback however, was that of Ravi Rampaul who is now 36 years old and last played a T20 international for West Indies back in 2015. He’s been picked based on good performances in the domestic circuit and for Trinbago Knight Riders in the ongoing CPL 2021.
All-rounder Roston Chase has also had a brilliant CPL 2021 and he’s got his maiden call-up to the national side in the T20 format. Usually known as a Test cricketer, he announced himself big time in the CPL this season and his all-round abilities is one of the main reasons the likes of Narine and Holder haven’t made the cut for this major ICC tournament.
