Once the list was final, we had 292 players registered to the IPL 2021 Auction and they were divided into different groups based on their base price. He needs no introduction as he’s got crazy records in international cricket including 38 international centuries with ODIs and tests combined. In the IPL itself, he has a long record of 2,333 runs after having first appeared in this tournament in IPL 2012. In the IPL 2020 season, he scored 311 runs in 14 games at an average of 25.91, which doesn’t give justice to his talent.
Many teams wanted to get him at the IPL 2021 Auction but the team that was finally successful in scooping him up was Delhi Capitals. Initially, it was only RCB who placed the minimum bid for Smithy and after a while, Delhi entered and was uncontested at a pay package of INR 2.2 Crore However, the team will be hoping he betters his record from IPL 2020.

He was one of 57 players to be released by all the IPL franchises so we were honestly pretty surprised that Smith even found a buyer at the IPL 2021 auction. In the past, he’s had only one good season back in IPL 2017 where he scored 472 runs but overall, he hasn’t proven to be a great T20 player. However, his new franchise seems to think differently!
