Best X Reactions: SRH Gets Highest Powerplay Score in T20 History

Runs have been bleeding all across the park in the Indian Premier League (IPL) current edition. And one of the teams responsible for two of the biggest IPL totals in the history of the competition is Sunrisers Hyderabad. They got two 270+ totals in IPL 2024 itself, and today was another record that came tumbling down.

We’re talking about the record for the highest ever powerplay score in IPL history, which was not just broken but hammered. Before today, the highest IPL powerplay score was 105/0 by Kolkata Knight Riders. Today, SRH smashed that record by scaling the 100-run mark within the first five overs of the match itself.

IPL 2024: SRH record highest IPL powerplay score

Travis Head beat his 18-ball fifty from earlier in IPL 2024 to get a 16-ball fifty in this game against Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma was giving him good competition as they got the fastest century in IPL history – 30 balls. There was nothing on offer for the home team in Delhi, as every record started tumbling.

It was absolute carnage as all the viewers around the world were gob-smacked. In the final over of the powerplay, Head smashed 4 fours and a six to get a record 125/0 which wasn’t only the highest powerplay score in IPL history, but in all T20 games around the world too. Madness, insanity, craziness!

Abhishek Sharma was batting on 46(11) after 6.1 overs and he had the chance to score the fastest IPL fifty, but he ended up becoming the first casualty at 131/1 in 6.2 overs. He was picked up by Kuldeep Yadav thanks to a terrific catch by Axar Patel. Later in the over, Kuldeep dismissed Aiden Markran, caught out by Axar once again. See some more X reactions here:

There was absolutely no respite for the bowlers but the two wickets in a single over would’ve helped the morale of the Delhi bowlers. And with 125/0 being scored in 6 overs, we were assured that the 300-runs dream in IPL 2024 is truly on. And if there’s any team who can get there, we definitely have our money on SRH doing so.

“Seeing Travis Head taking a single now is like seeing an empty birth in the train’s 3rd AC.” said one user on X (formerly Twitter) as the tweets kept pouring in about SRH and Travis Head’s performances today. And even after 2 wickets, Heinrich Klaasen came out and started smashing sixes himself too.

And despite all this mad hitting, Chris Gayle’s old record of a 30-ball century remained intact as Head was batting on 89(31)* at the time of us writing us. At the time, SRH was at 151/2 in only 8.4 overs. Ridiculous. For similar updates from the world of IPL 2024 and other cricket tournaments around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
