Members of Team India have been playing with a lot of workload over the last many months and years. Of late, there was half of the IPL 2021 season followed by the WTC Final which will be played in England later this month, followed by a tour of Sri Lanka in July and the IPL 2021 season returns in UAE in September as well. There’s literally no time to breathe!
To manage this workload, the selectors have decided to rest some of the key players ahead of more important tours and competitions. The 2021 India tour of Sri Lanka will see quite a few new names donning the blue jersey, with most being those who have performed in past editions of the Indian Premier League.
The team will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is at the R Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka between 13 – 25 July 2021 and the biggest news is that of left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan being named as captain. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and others have all been rested and won’t be a part of this white-ball tour.
