IPL 2021 To Resume in September in UAE

For cricket fans, the month of May 2021 would’ve been very painful without the Indian Premier League (IPL) which had to be abruptly stopped because of an outbreak of coronavirus among the players of different camps. Now, we have some good news as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that IPL 2021 will be back soon!

IPL 2021 To Resume in September in UAE

The biggest news was that in view of the Covid-19 situation in India, BCCI took the call of shifting IPL 2021 to UAE for the rest of the matches that are to be played. If you remember, IPL 2020 was also held in UAE and there was no compromising in terms of the bio-secure bubble, so players may not have too many health concerns.

The exact dates have not been rolled out but because of other cricket being scheduled around the same time including the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, there will be as many as 10 double headers scheduled in the 3-week window that has been fixed. The season will resume on 18th or 19th September and the IPL 2021 final will be played on either 9th or 10th October 2021.

“The BCCI has spoken to all the stakeholders and the likely start could be between September 18th to 20th. Since September 18 is a Saturday and 19 a Sunday, it is more likely that you would want to re-start it on a weekend date,” said an IPL official today. There are 31 games left in the IPL 2021 schedule and all of them will be played in UAE.

India will be in England after the 2021 WTC final and their tour of England. The final test against England will end on 14th September following which the Indian squad will get on a chartered flight for a ‘bubble to bubble’ transfer to UAE. A long season is coming up for all the Indians on that flight, and we may see some tiring creeping in when they play for their respective franchises in Sep-Oct this year!
