Shaun Tait Quits Afghanistan Bowling Coach Role

Afghanistan has been one of the fastest growing nations that the game of cricket has ever seen. However, the country as a whole has been facing some tough times over the last few months, with their government being broken and Taliban taking over the region. The cricket has also been affected, with not complete support being given at the 2021 T20 World Cup. And now, there’s more poor news for them…

Shaun Tait Quits Afghanistan Bowling Coach Role

The cricket team is seeing the management go through a complete change right now. South African all-rounder Lance Klusener yesterday announced that he doesn’t wish to renew his contract with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), quitting his role as head coach. A day after Klusener announced this decision, Australian speedster Shaun Tait has also decided to call it quits.

Tait was seen as part of the dugout many times during the T20 World Cup and was with the team as their fast-bowling consultant. Now one knows fast bowling better than Tait, who bowled one of the fastest deliveries ever seen in the game of cricket. However, Afghanistan will no long avail his services as he resigned ‘with immediate effect’ unlike Klusener who ran out of contract time.

“I have enjoyed my time working with the team especially with the young Afghan fast bowlers whom I personally think have a great future. Having access to a great cricketing mind like Lance Klusener (head coach of Afghanistan during my tenure) has been an absolute pleasure,” said in a short statement to announce this news.

We can’t tell if it’s a professional choice or it’s just something that’s being done out of fear or pressure, given the current state of affairs in Afghanistan. Regardless, it’s time that the country looks for some new personnel. Immediately after this decision though, the 38-year old signed a deal with Indian domestic team, Puducherry. So it could just be because he found a better opportunity.
