Shahid Afridi Tests Positive for Coronavirus

This coronavirus pandemic has caused a massive havoc across the world and over the last few months, we’ve had a number of high profile names also testing positive for COVID-19. Sportsmen haven’t been an exception to this and it was just a few weeks ago that we reported former Pakistan batsman Taufeeq Umar being tested positive for the same.

Now, more breaking news has come in and this time, it’s Shahid Afridi who is reported to have tested positive for COVID-19. The former Pakistani cricketer needs no introduction as he’s often been known as one of the most explosive batsmen in world cricket, wit most of the records relating to sixes belonging to him!

Shahid Afridi Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Lovingly known as ‘Lala’ by his teammates and the cricketing industry, he’s sadly not in the news for a new cricketing record, but for having contracted this fatal disease. Boom Boom Afridi took to Twitter to announce this news to his fans and followers. The community immediately reacted to his tweet and wished him a speedy recovery.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah ,” read his tweet. Even after getting the illness, the iconic player has urged players to stay home and stay safe.

After a couple of days of feeling unwell, Afridi got himself tested and was unfortunately COVID-19 positive. Taufeeq Umar placed himself in 14-days home quarantine and his test in the first week of June had resulted negative. Similarly, we hope that Boom Boom gets well soon, and that he gives us better news in the next couple of weeks.

Imad Wasim, Kamran Akmal, Atiq-uz-Zaman, Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz and several other cricketers instantly replied to his tweet and sent over their ‘Get Well Soon’ wishes. Also called Shahid Bhai in Pakistan cricketer, he has been one of the most loved cricketers across the world and we’re all wishing the 40-year old a very speedy recovery.

We’re not yet sure as to where he contracted the virus from but he has been actively doing social work to fight against COVID-19 in recent times through his ‘Shahid Afridi Foundation’, and we’re guessing he could’ve been exposed to the virus through this work.
