Shahid Afridi Confirms PSL 7 As His Farewell Season

Legendary Pakistani cricketer and all-rounder Shahid Afridi just never seems to age. He recently played in a tournament in Nepal and prior to that, got 8 wickets in 6 games at the 2021 Kashmir Premier League. Prior to that, he played in the PSL 2021 season but now, he has finally announced that the next edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will indeed be his last.

Shahid Afridi Confirms PSL 7 As His Farewell Season

He announced that HBL PSL 7 will be his farewell PSL 7, which is scheduled to begin in the last week of Jan 2022. The 41-year old is not as dangerous with the bat as he was in his prime anymore, but he is still very good with the ball and has been getting wickets in almost all of his last few games. However, age and the body may be catching up with him, and he’ll want to give the home crowd one last hurrah!

However, there’s going to be one big change as Afridi prepares for the PSL 2022 season – a jersey change. He has made the swap from Multan Sultans to Quetta Gladiators and will represent the Gladiators in his final PSL season. Along with him, England middle-order batsman James Vince has also made the move from the Sultans to the Gladiators.

“I am excited to join Quetta Gladiators, a side that has had a roller-coaster ride in the past few events despite winning the title in 2019. In my final PSL event, it will my dream and wish to sign off with another PSL trophy after tasting success with Peshawar Zalmi in 2017,” said Afridi after being traded to Gladiators for the PSL 7 season.

He’ll indeed be looking to make his dream come true and sign off with another HBL PSL trophy in his list of cricketing achievements, ever since his career began at the young age of 16 years. Quetta Gladiators’ owner Nadeem Omar had in fact announced this in August itself to Afridi, that he’d want him in his squad for PSL 2022.
