Twitter Reacts as Sean Williams Hits 174, 142 in Consecutive ODIs

If there was any confusion as to whether or not Zimbabwe deserves a place in the 2023 ICC World Cup, their performances in the last few games have cleared up all of those doubts. They’ve not only been good with the bat, but they’ve outdone themselves with the ball and in the field as well. And their experienced campaigners like Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams have stepped up when it counts the most.

They’re currently hosting the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers and they’ve gone unbeaten in four games so far, topping the Super Sixes stage after even staging an upset against West Indies a few days ago. And the best part about all of this is the consistent run scoring from the left-handed Williams, who today registered two consecutive ODI centuries, and both of them being big hundreds too…

Sean Williams Scores Consecutive ODI Hundreds

Scoring two consecutive ODI hundreds is never easy and doing it at a crucial stage for your country is even better. Williams hit a massive hundred a few days ago when Zimbabwe crossed the 400-run barrier for the first time in One Day Internationals, against USA. He hit a career-best 174(101) which included 21 fours and a six, also recording the second fastest ODI century for Zimbabwe.

Captaining in that game, Williams scored what was his 7th ODI hundred but he didn’t waste any time in getting the eighth one. In the next game against Oman, Zimbabwe scored 300+ once again and it was that man Williams once again, scoring 142(103) in another fascinating knock. He hit 14 fours and 3 sixes in this innings and Twitter has been going crazy over these Sean Williams consecutive centuries.

He also got a century earlier in the tournament, while scoring one fifty as well, which means Williams smashed 500+ runs in his last 5 ODIs, putting him on an elite list which includes names like Fakhar Zaman, Matthew Hayden, Babar Azam, and Virat Kohli, as pointed out in the tweet from ICC above. And with West Indies performing super poorly, Zimbabwe is likely to make it to the ICC World Cup 2023 now.

And with Williams being in such fine touch, you can even expect Zimbabwe to turn up and cause an upset or two in the mega ICC event taking place in India later this year. The best part is that he’s being backed up with good performances by others with both bat and ball, with the likes of Raza and Ryan Burl smashing it towards the end, and the bowlers hitting the right rhythm as well.

It’s too early to start comparisons with some of the best like Babar and Kohli like many are doing on social media, but we’re enjoying these knocks from Sean Williams as of now. He’s an experienced campaigner and it’s this experience that’s needed the most on the biggest of stages in international cricket.ย For more similar sports news and updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
