It’s the middle of the week but we’re having double headers in the 2021/22 Big Bash League, with the tournament bringing us all the fun possible before the year comes to a close. And today, it was Sydney Sixers playing Brisbane Heat in Match 25 of BBL 2021/22 which was one of the most topsy-turvy games I’ve ever seen in BBL over the years til date…
For starters, Brisbane Heat chose to bat and was reduced to 105 all out, which is a pathetic score and something nearly impossible to defend. However, Tom Cruise would’ve almost been proud as this mission impossible was almost made possible at the SCG today. This was all thanks to bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott who had a brilliant day where he got wickets, scored runs and took a stunning flying catch as well…
Sean Abbott takes flying catch in BBL 11
Before his heroics with the bat came into the limelight, Sixers had to do a job with the ball and Abbott was on top of his game today with figures of 4/31 which brought up his best bowling performance in BBL 2021/22 so far. Apart from that, he also took two catches in the outfield, one of James Bazley and the other one of Chris Lynn which took everyone watching by storm.
If you know Chris Lynn, you’ll know that there are not many batsmen in cricket today who can hit the ball harder than him. With a fifty in the last game, he was higher on confidence and he flat-bat slapped a ball in the fourth over against Ben Dwarshuis, attempting to find the gap through the covers. However, he found a flying Abbott at that position, the latter completing a fabulous Superman catch with a single hand.

Given the velocity at which it came towards Abbott, most people wouldn’t have had much of time to even react, let alone do what he did. He moved in the direction of the ball and dived nearly parallel to the ground, while grabbing the ball with his outstretched right hand. The result?! Chris Lynn stood at the crease in disbelief at what he just saw, dismissed for 2(6) thanks to a screamer from Abbott.
Hands down, this has to be the best catch of the BBL 11 season and it can be among the top catches in BBL history as well. And later that evening, the Superman from Sydney Sixers had an even bigger role to play when he was batting after his team crumbled to 47/8 during the chase. He persevered and managed to scrape of 37(43)*, finishing the game off the last ball and getting a 2-wicket win for the Sixers.

What a stunning catch! Sean Abbott had no business taking that… but he did. pic.twitter.com/zUh25yakCQ

If there ever was an all-round performance in the BBL, this was it. He picked up 4 wickets, flew like Superman to grab a stunner in the field and then played a knock under heavy pressure, finding a way to get Sixers home, registering 6 wins in 7 games and taking them to the top of the BBL 11 points table at the time.
