Yesterday was the last day of the round robin matches in IPL 2021 and we had a same timing double header for the first time ever in the history of this tournament. On one hand, it was MI vs SRH in Match 55 of IPL 2021 while the other hand saw RCB vs DC, and both games ended up providing some amazing entertainment to all viewers.
Royal Challengers Bangalore pulled things back well in their match, allowing only 36 runs in the last 5 overs of DC’s innings, and they were left to chase 165 runs in 20 overs after that. RCB had a poor start to their innings, leaving them at 6/2 and both openers send back to the hut. It wasn’t too long before AB de Villiers was also sent back to the hut, and RCB’s chances of victory were getting slimmer.
The result of this game was inconsequential because RCB and Delhi Capitals had both already qualified to the IPL 2021 playoffs but we still ended up seeing a fabulous match. Thanks to a fabulous partnership between Srikar Bharat and Glenn Maxwell, RCB needed 19 runs in 2 overs and they were clearly in the driver’s seat until Anrich Nortje’s fantastic 19th over where he gave away only 4 runs.

A lot of twists and turns in the final over meant RCB were left to chase 6 runs off the final ball if they wanted to end as winners. Avesh Khan bowled a wide and that meant 5 to get and a boundary to tie the game. He bowled a pathetic last ball, missing the yorker and bowling a knee-high full-toss. Bharat gleefully accepted the delivery and deposit straight down the ground for a maximum.
Until it crossed the line, we had no idea about whether this was a six or whether he was going to be caught on the boundary. Once everyone saw the ball go over the ropes, the RCB camp erupted in joy. Right from AB de Villiers to Virat Kohli to those in the support and management, everyone was up and about, yelling and jumping even though it didn’t affect the IPL 2021 points table. See here:
