93 Wickets Later, Rashid Khan Ends SRH Journey

It’s been a crazy couple of days as all the franchises had to submit their IPL 2022 retention lists by the end of November. And while some big names were retained by their sides, there were some big surprises ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. One of them was MI releasing Hardik Pandya while another was by the Sunrisers Hyderabad management who released one of the biggest overseas stars of the league!

We’re talking about Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan who is one of the most sought after T20 players in the world. Right since he was a teenager, he’s been a record-breaking cricketer and now that he’s a bit older, there’s cricket within him and has become a very loved cricketer as well. And now, he’s no longer going to be a part of the SRH team, for who he played between IPL 2017 to IPL 2021.

In 76 career IPL matches, Rashid picked up as many as 93 wickets for Sunrisers and more importantly, he won millions of hearts in Hyderabad and across the world as well. The spinner has been a vital part of the squad over the last five seasons and will now go under the hammer once again in the IPL 2022 mega auction, which is going to be a record-breaking one as well.

It was Rashid’s choice to go into the IPL auction as confirmed by SunRisers Hyderabad CEO, K Shammi. They respected his decision but will still try to get him in the auction. “It’s a difficult decision but if a player wants to be in the auction because of the price, we definitely respect his choice. We’ll try and match it and see if we can pick him up with the right price at the auction,” he said.

In his first year, Rashid was picked up for Rs.4 Crore in the auction but in the IPL 2018 auction, his price rose to Rs.8 Crore as Punjab Kings showed interest but SRH retained him using their RTM card. It’s likely he gets a price tag of Rs.10+ Crore in the upcoming IPL 2022 auction. He tweeted about his journey with SRH so far. See here:
