- Name: Rajasthan Royals
- Captain: Sanju Samson
- Head Coach: Kumar Sangakkara
- Squad members: 24 players (3 retained)
- Best result: Champions in IPL 2008
- IPL 2021 result: 7th on points table
This time surprised one and all in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), winning when they were least expected to. Since that victory, they’ve had strong squads but have never been able to win again. In fact, Rajasthan Royals has never even made a final again. And now, they’re looking forward to the IPL 2022 season with a squad that is one of the strongest on paper, but one which is untested and raw.

The side retained three players ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction and that includes Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Surprisingly, they went on to retain all three batsmen and while Samson will be leading the side, this could actually end up being one of the biggest downfalls of the squad. Samson is not ideal captain material but thankfully for him, some experienced heads in the camp may help n field.
Buttler will obviously be one of those experienced heads while it’s interested to see that they purchased Ravi Ashwin at the IPL 2022 Auction. Ashwin and Buttler have a history with the entire ‘mankading’ situation but they’re together now and the former has revived his white ball career of late. From not playing a T20 for India since 2016 to playing in the 2021 T20 WC, he’s back and even has experience of leading his franchise in the IPL.

All set to back him up in the spin bowling department is Yuzvendra Chahal who has come here from RCB and this guy has a lot to prove as well. Dropped from India’s T20 WC squad and released from RCB, Chahal has bowled a lot in tandem with Ashwin and they will be dangerous together. KC Cariappa is another spinner in the squad but we think he’ll be warming the bench for a major part of the season, if not all.
We’re really liking this team’s bowling reserves as they have two of India’s upcoming pacers in Prasidh Krishna and Navdeep Saini. Saini is also coming here after being released by RCB and while he’s been given chances for the last couple of years and hasn’t grabbed it, there’s Krishna who has been taking every opportunity he’s got. Recently, he impressed with 15 wickets in two FC games before taking 9 wickets in three ODIs against West Indies.
Paying the big bucks for the left-arm pacer from New Zealand, Trent Boult is sure to lead their bowling attack as he did for MI for many years in the IPL. He’s got two other countrymen with him in this team in James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell, both of whom are not going to be guaranteed first choice starters in this team. If they want an added bowling option from the overseas lot, they could go in for Nathan Coulter-Nile, also coming in from Mumbai Indians.
Rajasthan Royals – IPL 2022 Betting
Leading the batting charts for RCB in IPL 2021 was Devdutt Padikkal and he’s been brilliant in all formats of the game in the domestic circuit. With records all over the place at a young age, he’s an easy bet to be RR’s top batsman of IPL 2022, and we’re sure you can find those betting markets on Betway. As for the IPL 2022 outright winner, they’re listed at attractive odds of 9.0 which is worth a gamble as they’d want to win this for former team mentor, Shane Warne.

The team may lack the firepower to hit the big shots apart from Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer. Among the overseas players, Boult, Buttler and Hetmyer are sure picks, while Coulter-Nile may be the fourth overseas player if they want another bowler. Remember, they’ve picked the in-form South African middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen but it’s unlikely he makes his IPL debut in the first half of the tournament.
