See Rahul Dravid’s Reaction to Rishabh Pant Century

Today was Day 1 of the fifth and final Test between England and India, one which is happening after a break of 9 months. It was historic for multiple reasons including the fact that it was the first time that a fielder camera was used in Test cricket. And it went on to become even more special for Team India as they had a great outing on the opening day.

There were records tumbling in every session after Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to put India in to bat. India was in a spot of bother as they lost their top batsmen early in the second session and had to recover from a position of being at 98/5. And recover they did, thanks mostly to one particular wicket-keeper batsman called Rishabh Pant.

Rahul Dravid roars after Pant’s century

Pant and Ravindra Jadeja came together for the sixth wicket partnership and scored 222 runs for that stand, counter-attacking from a position where we thought they would’ve been bundled out really cheaply in the 1st innings. And while Jadeja played a great innings himself and ended unbeaten at the end of Day 1, it was Pant who stole the limelight today.

He started hitting the ball all over the ground, right from the minute he came out to bat. On a pitch where bowlers were getting a lot of assistance in terms of bounce and swing, the southpaw came out and started jumping around. He smashed a century which was the fastest by an Indian wicket-keeper in Test cricket, going past an MS Dhoni record. And everyone including coach Rahul Dravid were thrilled!

Known as one of the most calm and composed men in Indian cricket and someone who has always had a control over his emotions, Dravid was seen yelling out in delight when Pant got to his century. It’s very rare for Dravid to send out a roar of happiness like he did today and social media went into a frenzy when they saw this reaction from Dravid.

Even the on-air commentators were surprised to watch his reaction. One of them spotted Virat Kohli in the frame and said that it’s maybe the influence of being around Kohli that led to this new behaviour from Dravid. Coming to the knock, it saved India from ending up in a shameful position and he ended with 146(111), falling finally to the part-time spin bowling of Joe Root.

He helped bring India to a respectable position, as they finished with 338/8 at Stumps on Day 1. And let’s not forget the contribution of Jadeja as well, who ended the day with 83* and will also look at reaching the 3-figure landmark early on Day 2. He played second fiddle through most of his innings and that was a vital role too.
