UPDATE: On Day 2 of the tournament, three more batsmen scored centuries at the 2022 Atlanta Open T20.
Entering the scene as a gentle giant a few years ago, Rahkeem Cornwall set the record for the heaviest international cricketer when he got the chance to play in whites for the West Indies. And while his national numbers haven’t been the best, this guy is someone who really gets a move on in the Caribbean Premier League and in other domestic tournaments, with both bat and ball.
The 29-year old recently completed a stint in the CPL 2022 tournament where his team Barbados Royals unfortunately fell short in the final against Jamaica Tallawahs. He put up 36 runs in the final and in the game before that, smashed 91 against Guyana. Now he’s in the news for a T20 double century that he’s scored in a brand new tournament known as the Atlanta Open 2022.
Rahkeem Cornwall – T20 double century in Atlanta Open 2022
Now everyone knows that even getting to a team double century in T20 cricket is super tough because you need to score at 10+ runs per over. But what if we told you that Cornwall pulled off the impossible and scored a T20 double century himself, and propelled his team to a triple century score?! Yes, we’re not kidding as the all-rounder opened the innings and hit the ball all over the park for an unbeaten double century.
A new tournament on the block, Atlanta Open 2022 has a few international stars in action from all across the world. Cornwall with 9 Tests to his name is one of them and he represented Atlanta Fire as they took on Square Drive in one of the eight games scheduled on the opening day of the tournament, 5th October 2022.

His efforts included 17 fours and as many as 22 sixes (we’re not kidding!) as he smashed an unbelievable 205(77)* and took Atlanta Fire to as much as 326/1 in their quota of 20 overs. We don’t know how many times in the past we’ve read of teams getting to 300+ in T20 cricket but it’s not something you see every day for sure. USA’s Steven Taylor also played a good hand of 53(18) before being dismissed.
A number of games were taking place at different grounds on the opening day of the Atlanta Open 2022 and in another game, Pakistan’s Sharjeel Khan also played a good hand of 91(55) but nothing came close to Cornwall’s blitzkrieg innings. And the best part is that it’s still just the first day of this league, so we can imagine what’s yet to come here. Take a look at some of his massive hitting:

This American T20 tournament has a prize money of $75,000 kept aside for the winners and while it’s still early days for USA cricket, it’s good to see some big international names being a part of the action in this country. He ran only 5 runs in this entire innings and even West Indies Cricket Board was astonished with this batting effort. See their tweet:
