There hasn’t been a very well structured domestic cricket set-up in Afghanistan, but we’re hoping that that’s slowly changing over time. In March 2024, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the a new tournament which would kick off between 1-13 May 2024 called the National T20 Cup, taking place for the first time in the country, and known as the Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup in the first edition.
The idea of the tournament was to give the Afghan players some good preparation and criteria for selection ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup which was in June the same year. However, the tournament continued in 2025, with a revamp from 5 teams to 4 teams, all of which weren’t a part of the first edition. This time, it was called the 2025 Wakhan National T20 Cup.
The five participating teams in the inaugural edition included regional Afghanistan sides – Mis Ainak Region, Band-e-Amir Region, Speen Ghar Region, Amo Region, and Boost Region. They were all scrapped for the Wakhan National T20 Cup 2025, and the teams who made their debut were – Hindukush Strikers, Mah-e-Par Stars, Pamir Legends, and Maiwand Champions.

The first edition was a double round robin format followed by the final which was contested by the top two teams on the points table. All games in the National T20 Cup 2024 were played in Afghanistan’s Kabul International Cricket Stadium and that was won by Band-e-Amir Region, who topped the table with 5 wins in 8 games and then went on to beat Mis Ainak Region in the final, where they batted first and ended up defending their total by 23 runs.
The 2025 Wakhan National T20 Cup had all games scheduled to be played at the Kunduz Cricket Ground in Kunduz. At the time of last updating this, Pamir Legends and Hindukush Strikers started off their season with wins to each of their names, and we’ll update this page in real-time as and when there are new winners over the years.
