In most T20 franchise leagues, you’d associate most records and milestones to be related to batting because well, it is a batsman’s game. However, bowlers have an equal part to play in the game and they do so in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well, which is the premier T20 tournament in Pakistan, played annually during the Feb-March period.
The PSL T20 tournament made its debut in 2016 and since then, there has been eight completed seasons and each year, there are fresh batting and bowling records tumbling because the quality of cricket keeps improving. We listed all PSL centuries scored till date on another page but here, Read Scoops has listed down PSL all 5-wicket hauls picked up from start till date.
It’s a big achievement if you manage to bag a 5-wicket haul in Test cricket and even a bigger deal if you do so in one day cricket. However, it’s massive if you pick up a 5-wicket haul in T20 cricket because you’re only allowed a quota of 4 overs in each spell. There have been 12 such PSL 5-wicket hauls in the history of the Pakistan Super League, last updated as of 17th February 2024, at the start of the 2024 season.

10 were picked up by local Pakistan bowlers while two were bagged by overseas PSL signings. In fact, the very first 5-wicket haul in the PSL was by English all-rounder Ravi Bopara who went on to take a 6-fer as well. He did so in PSL 2016 and his record figures of 6/16 remains one of only three 6-fers in PSL T20 history, and it also remains the best figures in the league till date.

The first season in PSL 2016 began with a bang for the bowlers with 3 different 5-wicket hauls being picked and after that, it was only in PSL 2023 where we witnessed another single season with three 5-fers. Among the six PSL franchise teams, each and every one of them has seen their bowlers pick up a PSL 5-wicket haul at least once, while Islamabad United and Multan Sultans have done so a record three times each.

Quetta Gladiators had no 5-wicket haul to their name prior to the start of the HBL PSL 7 season but Naseem Shah put them on the scoreboard when he picked up career best PSL figures of 5/20. It’s interesting to note that whenever the bowlers do well, the team is likely to win. From the above list of PSL 5-fers, only once has the team gone on to lose and that’s when Umar Gul picked up his 6-fer for Multan Sultans in PSL 2018. This list was updated prior to the HBL PSL 2024 season and we believe there will be more entries in the PSL 5-fers list soon.
