What Were the Ollie Robinson Tweets That Caused Suspension?

In case you’re unaware, we recently had an international cricketer in England’s Ollie Robinson who has been indefinitely suspended from all forms of international cricket, until the outcome of a disciplinary investigation. The hearing has come after a decade old series of tweets surfaced where Robinson has made sexist and racist comments.

What Were the Ollie Robinson Tweets That Caused Suspension?

In light of the recent fight against racism, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has zero tolerance for such comments and that led to an immediate suspension of the fast bowler, who incidentally, just made his Test debut for England. As a result, Robinson will be unavailable for selection for the 2nd Test against New Zealand at Edgbaston, which begins on Thursday.

Robinson had a great debut outing with a total of 7 wickets in his first international game but immediately after the suspension on Sunday, the England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Robinson is leaving the England national camp to return to his county, Sussex. The ban does not apply to domestic cricket and he can continue playing there until a decision is made by the ICC.

The series of tweets in question were posted in 2012 and 2013 and were deleted. However, they coincidentally were released online moments after Robinson stepped out to make his debut at Lord’s and after the ‘moment of unity’ silence that players have just before the game. The home team also wore t-shirts against all kinds of discrimination.

Every wants to know about these tweets. One of them from 2012 read “My new Muslim friend is the bomb”. And just incase that wasn’t racist enough for you, the then teenager Robinson also posted stuff like “I wonder if Asian people put smileys like this ¦) #racist”. The series also involved a lot of sexist tweets against women. Take a look:
