Last month, we spoke about England fast bowler Ollie Robinson who had only recently made his international debut in the Test series against New Zealand and although he made an impressive debut, it was marred by heavy controversy regarding some racist tweets he made many yeas ago. Post the game, Robinson was suspended indefinitely from international cricket with the investigation underway.
Today, we have a follow-up to that story as the investigation is complete and Robinson, who played just the 1 Test so far, has been handed an 8-match ban along with a fine of €3,200. As per reports just coming in, Robinson is free to resume playing cricket after his suspension is complete, as imposed by the Cricket Discipline Commission.

He’s been handed out an 8-match ban, five of which are suspended for two years. The Sussex and now England bowler has already completed 3 matches of this ban, which was because of a ‘number of offensive tweets’ which went out from his Twitter handle between 2012 and 2014, when he was not so much in contention to become an international cricketer. Read about those historic tweets here.
Because of missing one England Test against New Zealand and two Vitality Blast T20 games, the suspension is already over and the 27-year old is basically FREE to play and resume his England career right away. As per reports, the panel considered significant mitigation and the time lapsed between the posts and now, also keeping in mind he’s a different person than who he was when he was between 18-20 years old.
Some might say it’s a fair warning while others may call this completely unfair. Comment and let us know your opinion as well. And for all similar stories and updates from the world of cricket, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
