More than the winner here today, we’re feeling a bit for the losing side after the 2022-23 Men’s Super Smash final concluded earlier today. If you’re wondering why, it’s because leading New Zealand T20 franchise Canterbury has gone on to lose their third consecutive final in this tournament, today losing to the Northern Brave in a pretty one-sided final.
Canterbury batted first in the Super Smash 2022/23 final and they managed 154/6 which was a pretty par score for a final in New Zealand. Captain Cole McConchie top scored with 54(36) but didn’t get much of support from the other batsmen. It was a repeat of last year’s final and this time, the result ended up being the same as the Northern Districts side claimed their fourth Super Smash title.
Northern Brave wins fourth Super Smash title
They started the chase with an attacking mindset, getting a quick start and from there, the batsmen to follow only helped move on the cause. Wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert came out as an opener and he scored a quick 51 before being dismissed. And from there, all-rounder Mitchell Santner decided to stay there till the team got across the line.
He bowled a magnificent spell with the ball, picking 3/16 in his four overs and then, he came and closed the deal for Northern Knights with the bat as well. He got 22(13)* and didn’t allow the game to go too deep, securing a 7-wicket victory with 2 full overs to spare. It’s not the first time Santner performed in a Super Smash final, scoring 92(40)* and picking up 1/23 in last year’s final as well.

The celebrations will go on late in the night today for the Northern Brave side, getting their second successive Super Smash title. We hope you liked this Super Smash final match report, as where Joe Carter was also unbeaten on 30(19)* when Brave crossed the finish line. There’s no doubt about who the player of the final was – much like it was last year too – Mitchell Santner!

Canterbury was brilliant right through the season, with 6 wins in their 10 games during the round robin stage, topping the Super Smash points table. On the other hand, Northern brave finished third with 4 wins from their 10 games. However on the day where it counted the most, Brave held their nerves and they were rewarded well for the same.
At the end of this long competition, Dean Foxcroft ended as the top scorer with 424 runs in 10 games and Jayden Lennox ended as the best bowler of Super Smash 2022/23 with 16 wickets in only the 9 games he played this season.
