In October last year, a historic decision was made as for the first time in 15 years since the Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008 did the organisers decide to do an expansion. The IPL has always seen 8 teams till date and for IPL 2022 and onwards, there will be 10 teams playing in each season, with Lucknow and Ahmedabad added as the two new franchises.
Late last month, Lucknow Super Giants revealed their name and they received a lot of flak for not being original, as the team owners used the same name that they used for their Pune franchise which was active many years ago. Now, it’s time for the Ahmedabad franchise to announce their name, which they did on their social media channels today.
New IPL team – Ahmedabad Titans
Fans are never happy and this name was taken badly too on social media and among IPL and cricket fans, as they announced their name as Ahmedabad Titans. Of course, it’s new and will take time to get used to, but initial reactions say that not many are happy with this franchise name for one of the two new teams, take will debut starting IPL 2022.
As of now, these two teams don’t even have any players in their squads, picking three players each in the IPL 2022 Player Draft. One of them was the captain Hardik PandyaΒ while the other two players picked by the Ahmedabad Titans for IPL 2022 were opening batsman Shubman Gill and the Afghanistan leg-spinning wizard, Rashid Khan.

While the Lucknow franchise has been doing a lot on social media to gain some popularity among IPL fans and they’ve even got their following up to a good stage, Ahmedabad Titans are way behind on their social media game, with a little less than 10,000 followers on their Twitter handle at the time of making this announcement.
With no build up or hype at all (like the way Lucknow made their announcement), Ahmedabad Titans posted a single tweet saying, “ππππ πππΏπΌπ ππ πΌππ πππππΎππΌπππ πΎπΌππππΏ πΌπ πΌππππΏπΌπ½πΌπΏ ππππΌππ” and this came with no image or logo along with it. This team may have the best players once the IPL 2022 auction is done, but they’ve definitely got to bump up their social media game!
And because of this poor following on social media, cricket fans weren’t even sure if this was the official account and whether or not they actually have been named as the Ahmedabad Titans or whether it’s another fake social media account posting false news. Either way, we know the news is here and this is a name to stay!
