Nepal T20 League Winners List

With the rest of the world already having some franchise T20 leagues in place, the Cricket Association of Nepal didn’t want to hold back and they launched a new initiative in 2022 called the Nepal T20 League. Currently lacking an official title sponsor, the tournament is abbreviated as the NepalT20 and the first edition of the event was the Nepal T20 2022/23.

While there’s been the likes of Dhangadhi Premier League, Everest Premier League, Pokhara Premier League, and others in the country, this is the first overall country franchise tournament. It’s not got a long history but we expect this tournament to grow as time passes. The first edition kicked off on 24th Dec 2022 and ends 11th Jan 2023, with players from multiple countries being a part of the 6 regional squads.

The tournament was postponed multiple times but when it finally kicked off, it followed a double round-robin and playoffs format. In the first edition, we saw 4 teams progress while Far West United and Pokhara Avengers finished in the bottom two spots on the Nepal T20 points table, thus being the first two teams to be eliminated from the Nepal T20 2022 tournament.

Lumbini All Stars topped the Nepal T20 points table in the inaugural season with 8 wins in 10 games and here, we’ve jotted down a complete Nepal T20 League winners list from start till date, last updated on 7th January 2023, which is towards the end of the inaugural season of the tournament. In the first season, it was Lumbini All Stars vs Janakpur Royals in Qualifier 1 for a spot directly into the Nepal T20 2022 final. Then, we have Biratnagar Super Kings vs Kathmandu Knights in the Eliminator, before Qualifier 2 and the mega final takes place. All games of the first Nepal T20 season were played at the ground in Kirtipur and we expect the same in the next few seasons as well.

Far West United captain, Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi topped the batting charts in the 2022 Nepal T20 with 400 runs in 10 games at the end of the round robin, unable to improve on his numbers as they didn’t qualify for the playoffs. With the ball, Nepal’s Abinash Bohara (Kathmandu Knights) leads the charts with 18 wickets in 10 games, and will improve on these numbers as they’re in the playoffs as well.
