Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) – Most Wickets List

The country’s leading T20 franchise competition, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has always delivered some of the best local and overseas bowling performances since inception of the tournament in 2012. We’ve almost always focussed on the batsmen because T20 is a batter’s game but we’ve seen some bowler pick wickets, year after year in the BPL T20 competition.

Today, we’re going to cover some of these bowlers and to be precise, we’ve put together a list of the top 10 wicket-takers in the history of the Bangladesh Premier League. Most of the entries on this list are local players while there are a couple of other overseas players who have made the list as well. Keep reading for our complete BPL T20 most wickets list…

Leading the pack is none other than talismanic all-rounder from Bangladesh, Shakib al Hasan. It’s safe to say that he’s one of the most impactful players in BPL history because he’s among the top spots in the BPL most runs list, while also being the top bowler in BPL and also the only player to have 100+ wickets in the tournament, when we last updated this list.

While Bangladesh is known to produce some of the best left-arm spinners, he’s the only spinner in the top 5 spots on this BPL top wicket-takers list, last updated on 7th January 2023, a day after the start of the BPL 2023 season. See the full BPL top run scorers list here:

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) – most wickets list

While most of these bowlers have played through almost all seasons of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL T20), a honourable mention definitely needs to go out to Kevon Cooper who only played between BPL 2012-2017 and makes the list despite playing the least number of games from other bowlers on this list, also having the best average (14.01) and economy rate (6.32) from those on the BPL top bowlers list.

Cooper also holds he record for the best bowling figures from bowlers on this list, picking up 5/15 as his best career BPL figures. Shakib is very close to him, also picking up 5/16 against Rangpur Riders in BPL 2017. Taskin Ahmed is the bowler with the leading number of 4-fers in the competition, having got those on four (4) separate occasions.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera is the only bowler on this list to have picked up two 5-fers in his BPL career. Narrowly missing out on making this BPL top bowlers list is Mohammad Nabi and Dwayne Bravo, both at 61 career BPL wickets each.
