Muttiah Muralitharan Loses Cool in GT vs SRH Game!

We’re sure you’ve run out of fingernails if you watched today’s Indian premier League (IPL) game between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was IPL 2022 Match 40 and we saw the game going down to the wire, finishing off the final ball of the game. However, we’re going to point out one particular event that happened in the last over which sparked everyone’s interests.

We’re talking about SRH bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan who was spotted losing his cool and yelling in the dugout during the final over of the GT vs SRH game. Hyderabad needed to defend 22 runs in the final over and 9 times out of 10, you’d expect this kind of a total to be defended. However, that didn’t happen in this game!

Muttiah Muralitharan Loses Cool in GT vs SRH Game!

IPL 2022 – Muttiah Muralitharan seen losing cool!

Young South African left-arm pacer Marco Jansen was given the responsibility to bowl the final over against two Gujarat batsmen in Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. Given his height of nearly 7 feet, he’s good for his back of the length and/or short bowling, which also gave him a lot of success in the recent game against RCB where he picked a few of their top order batsmen with ease.

However, Jansen was really off his rhythm today and we saw him bowling very full, which goes against his strengths. In the first over of his spell too, he bowled very full to GT opener Wriddhiman Saha and was hit for 18 runs off that over. Similarly in the last over, Tewatia hit the first ball for six while Rashid went on to hit three sixes in the four balls he faced as well.

When the third six was hit and Gujarat was left to get just 3 runs off the final ball, the camera panned towards Muralitharan who was furious with this bowling effort from Jansen. He kept bowling a fuller length and was carter over the offside for another six. We’re not a 100% sure of what Murali said but we believe it looked like, “Why the fuck is he bowling full?!”

Over the couple of decades that we’ve seen the Sri Lankan spin wizard playing cricket and even in the next few years where he was seen in other cricketing roles, we’ve never really seen Murali lose his cool like this. Eventually, the final ball was also pulled away over fine leg for six and Gujarat ended up winning by 5 wickets, with Jansen’s spell finishing at 0/63 in 4 overs!

Seeing him so animated is so rare but it’s also understandable as none of us at Read Scoops were able to understand the strategy being implemented by Jansen in the 20th over. However, he’s young and will certainly learn from tonight’s experience with the ball, where he was hammered to all parts of the ground.
