Two T20Is have been completed in the 2021 West Indies tour of Pakistan and the visitors fielded a new team as they earlier had three players testing positive for Covid-19, all thus missing the 3-match T20I series. However, the tour went on as they had enough of squad depth to resume. But today, news has come in of 5 more members testing positive for Covid-19, which puts the rest of the tour in doubt.
This includes two members of management and three players including Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein and Justin Greaves. They along withassistant coach Roddy Estwick and physician Dr Akshai Mansingh will all undergo ten days of isolation after their PCR tests returned positive. The West Indies and Pakistan Cricket Boards will meet today to decide the future of this tour now.
Now, from the original squad of 18 members who came on this tour of Pakistan, only 11 fit players are able to take the field for the 3rd T20I scheduled for today, 16th Dec 2021, as Devon Thomas was also ruled out because of a finger injury in the first match. Also, with the recent players testing positive being in contact with the rest of the team, it’s unlikely play may go on.

These players have also been in contact with the Pakistan players, so the opponent camp could also be at risk. Currently, Pakistan already leads and have won the series, winning the two games by 63 runs and 9 runs respectively. It’s likely that the T20I series could be cancelled and the ODI series resumed with maybe a few days of delay.
The jinx of playing international cricket in Pakistan resumes as just before the World Cup, New Zealand pulled out of the tour citing security issues. West Indies was the next team to come here and they’ve now been hit by Covid-19 cases. The two teams are scheduled to play the 3-match ODI series in Pakistan starting 18th Dec 2021.
