Tigers won the toss and opted to bowl first in the 2023 GT20 Canada final, and they only managed to put up 130/5 in their 20 overs. However, we’ve seen that this tournament hasn’t needed the highest scores batting first. Jatinder Singh from Oman top scored with 56(57)* and the stage was set for a good chase for Montreal.

The Tigers started slow and were struggling at 61/4 in the 12th over, when Jaguars captain Iftikhar Ahmed picked up 2 wickets in a single over. But from there, Sherfane Rutherford got together with Andre Russell to win the game in the final over, being crowned GT20 Canada 2023 winners, getting over the line with 5 wickets and no balls to spare.

Rutherford was the hero in Qualifier 2 when he hit three consecutive sixes to book a berth in the final for his team, and he brought that confidence into the final today. Dipendra Airee from Nepal was struggling with the bat and he retired himself out at the end of the 18th over to get Dre Russ to the crease. And the latter hit 2 crucial sixes in the final over along with another boundary, recording a crucial contribution.

Russell had a quick interview after the game and he was delighted to have been able to complete the game for his side, and thanked the coaching staff for all their support. He ended with a much needed 20(6)* and that was definitely the game changing knock in the final. Overall, a massive boost for cricket in the country and we expect more successful seasons to come over the years.

Colin Munro ended the tournament with the most runs (212 runs) while Matthew Forde was a surprise as he ended as the competition’s top wicket taker, with 15 wickets to his name.
