Mohammed Shami Thought of Suicide Thrice

During the COVID-19 lockdown days, Indian cricketers and other sportsmen around the world have been taking to Instagram Live and other platforms to entertain their fans every now and then. There have been exciting conversations and new revelations across each conversation and the most recent of them came in a chat between batsman Rohit Sharma and fast bowling sensation, Mohammed Shami.

Shami went on to make a very revealing statement that said he had thought of suicide three times during some of the toughest times of his career. It was the ICC 2015 World Cup that saw the pacer getting injured and from there, it was a steep hill to climb and attain complete fitness, being out of the game for around 18 months.

Mohammed Shami though of suicide thrice

Just as Shami was returning back to 100% fitness, he started facing troubles in his personal life as well, with his estranged wife Hasin Jahan accusing him of domestic violence and rape in 2018. These were dark times and with the entire nation’s eyes and ears on him, it’s understandable that Shami thought of suicide during these times.

“Someone used to stay with me 24*7, I was not well mentally, my family was there for me, if your family is there then you can get through any situation. If my family was not there then I might have taken a bad step, but I thank my family for being with me throughout,” said Shami during his chat with Rohit Sharma.

However, it’s great to see Shami going through one of the best phases of his career right now. He came back strong, hard and fitter than ever, picking wickets across formats for India and that’s all we would like to see from him.
