Complete Men’s Super Smash 5-Fers List

New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition is older than most other T20 leagues across the world, having originated in the 2005/06 season. Having changed multiple names over the years, the tournament is now called the Men’s Super Smash T20 competition, which runs each year during the Dec-Jan period, alongside the women’s competition as well.

While we always tend to glorify the best batting performances, we’re going to discuss some of the top bowling efforts in the men’s super smash history on this page. We’ve deep dived into every occasion that a 5-wicket haul was picked up by a bowler over the seasons, so keep reading below for our complete men’s Super Smash 5-fers list, from start of the tournament till date.

Complete Men's Super Smash 5-Fers List

The first player to get a 5-fer in the men’s Super Smash competition was Ewen Thompson who did so while representing the Central Districts franchise in the 2006/07 season. He bagged 5/32 in that effort and it was only 6 years later that we saw the first overseas player to join the Super Smash 5-fers list, when Australia’s Ben Laughlin joined the action with 6/28 in 2013.

Laughlin’s 6/28 was not just the first time an overseas player got a 5-fer but it was also the second Super Smash 6-fer in the tournament’s history. The only other overseas player to get a Super Smash 5-fer is Ben Hilfenhaus, also from Australia. Local player Andrew Ellis became the first person to make multiple entries into the Super Smash 5-fers list, and then went on to become the first to get three 5-fers in the tournament too. No other bowler has got to this milestone three times, while Jacob Duffy is the only other player to have got two 5-fers in the competition.
