Mayank Agarwal Hit By Siraj; Misses 1st Test

One of the biggest cricket challenges for Team India in the last year or so is almost upon us and many experts question the fact of whether or not India is ready to play England in English conditions. After a poor show in Sri Lanka, they’re faced with the mighty task of playing 5 Tests in England and while we were already doubting the team’s ability on paper, there’s a big blow they’ve got just before the 1st Test.

Mayank Agarwal Hit By Siraj; Misses 1st Test

Someone who has been doing really well in IPL as well as in the Test format in the last couple of years is Mayank Agarwal and he was one of India’s first choice openers for this Test series. However, he received a blow to the head during a net session in practice a couple of days before the start of the 1st Test, and has been ruled out of the game.

Hits to the head are taken very seriously these days and Mayank had a concussion after a hit to the head due to a bouncer from his teammate Mohammed Siraj. He has been ruled out of the 1st Test at Trent Bridge and we’re assuming that Ajinkya Rahane is his likely replacement, the latter being cleared of a hamstring niggle he was facing.

He was trying to duck the bouncer but was unsuccessful, given Siraj has been bowling at some serious pace in recent times. He was seen walking out with physio Nitin Patel after initially falling to the ground. He was holding his head while walking off and while KL Rahul is in the squad, there’s Abhimanyu Easwaran who has been called up as a replacement opening option.
