Manchester United Owners Interested in IPL Teams?

The Premier League in England has been around since decades while the Indian Premier League has barely been around for a little over a decade. Clearly, there’s a huge gap between the two tournaments, inclusive of the history, the prize money, the commercial deals, viewership, fan following and much more. However, here are the first talks of a coming together of the two massive leagues!

Manchester United Owners Interested in IPL Teams?

Earlier today, we heard of reports of the Manchester United owners having shown an interest in bidding for the two new IPL teams which are set to join the tournament in IPL 2022. One of the world’s most popular football clubs based in England, the franchise is owned and run by the Glazer family and they’ve expressed an interested in purchasing one of the two new IPL teams.

Initially, the draft for the new new teams which was finalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was supposed to have happened by now but the deadline has been extended by BCCI because of this interest being shown by the Glazers. Reports suggest that the Glazer family has picked up the Invitation To Tender (ITT) which was floated out by the BCCI, with the latter planning a 10-team event for IPL 2022.

Bidders are expected to submit an average turnover of Rs. 3,000 Crore or a net worth of Rs. 2,500 Crore, and without these criteria being met, they cannot apply for the new teams. BCCI allowed foreign companies to apply for the bid but with a clause that they’d have to set up a company in India in case they win the bid. 20th October was the initial deadline, but that has been pushed forward to the last week of October 2021.

The price of the tender itself was Rs.10 Lakh and some of the companies who have applied for the teams include Adani Group, Torrent Pharma, Aurobindo Pharma, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, Hindustan Times Media, and Jindal Steel. Entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala has also picked up a tender for a new team in IPL 2022.

Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Guwahati, Cuttack, Indore, and Dharamsala are the front-runners to be the two new franchises in IPL 2022, with Ahmedabad being a favourite because of the massive Narendra Modi Stadium built recently. We’d be super happy to see Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer taking part in IPL 2022 and for more future updates on the same, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
