It was only in 2020 that the Lanka Premier League (LPL) was brought to life by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and since then, we’ve had two completed seasons of this newly created T20 franchise league. And here on this page, we want to celebrate the bowlers and talk about those who have managed the most wickets in the Lanka Premier League so far. While it is a Sri Lankan league, we’re happy to see that three out of the top 10 wicket-takers in LPL history are overseas players, which shows that there’s plenty of growth potential. Ever since he burst on to the scene as a leg-spinner who can bat a bit, Wanindu Hasaranga has managed to break records in every tournament he’s played, be it the Abu Dhabi T10 or the IPL or the T20 World Cup, or even his home tournament – LPL T20. He’s currently the top wicket-taker in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), and we expect him to stay at the top for a while to come.

Why, you wonder?! Well firstly, he’s a bit of a way ahead the rest and one of the nearest competitors in Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of LPL 2022 due to injury. Hasaranga seems to be the leading LPL T20 bowler on all fronts. Not only is he the highest wicket-taker going into LPL 2022 but he’s also got the best bowling average by miles (15.60) and he’s also got the best economy rate from bowlers on this list of top 10 wicket-takers in the Lanka Premier League, being the only one with an economy of less than 6rpo – 5.98 rpo.
Additionally, he’s also the only bowler to have bowled 3 maidens in their LPL bowling careers, with Mohammad Amir having done it twice. Hasaranga however has not yet got a 5-fer or even a 4-fer in the LPL competition, with most of them having 4-fers and Amir along with Nuwan Thushara having a 5-fer each under their belts. Thushara holds the record for the best bowling spell in LPL T20, picking up 5/13.
Narrowly missing out on this list were Jayden Seales, Imran Tahir and Suranga Lakmal who have 15 wickets each in their respective LPL careers. We think Seales is someone to watch out for as he got those wickets in only 7 games and has already bowled a couple of maidens in those games too, with best career LPL bowling figures of 4/13 to his name.
