The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been around since a handful of years now after the inaugural edition came around with LPL 2020. Since then, quite a few individual performers have come to light, both with bat as well as ball. Some of these have been international cricket stars while the others being local Sri Lankan players, who have entered the limelight for the first time.
When you talk about T20 cricket, you mostly give a lot of credit to the batters but here, we’re going to look at bowling records in LPL T20, in particular every time a bowler has managed to complete a 5-wicket haul in the history of the Lanka Premier League, whether that’s a Sri Lankan bowler or an overseas one. While there are a number of players who have emerged as local talents since LPL 2020, the first person to pick an LPL 5-wicket haul was Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammed Amir, who was touted to be one of the best pace bowlers in the world at one point of time. Including that and since then, a total of four 5-fers have been taken in LPL history, with the list below being last updated 15th August 2023.

Amir’s 5-fer remains his best LPL T20 bowling spell till date, picking up 5/26 against Colombo Kings in the first edition of the tournament, representing Galle Gladiators at the time. And these performances from the names mentioned above are not even one-time performances as most of their names appear in the LPL all-time top wicket-takers list as well. Till date, no bowler has managed to pick up 5-fers on two separate occasions in this tournament while the best bowling performance was by Jeffrey Vandersay, who picked 6/25 in LPL 2021, which is also the only 6-fer in the league’s history.
