The domestic cricket set up in Kuwait hasn’t been the best over the years and that’s why, the Kuwait Cricket Club decided to launch a new commercial league which would help boost T20 cricket in the country. They introduced the Kuwait T20 Elite Cup towards the end of 2023 for the first season and after the success of that edition, it wasn’t long before the second edition was announced.
The first edition was played between 8 Nov – 15 Dec 2023 and not even a month later, the second edition was announced to be played at the Sulabiya Cricket Ground in Kuwait. The Kuwait T20 Elite Cup 2024 season was announced between 5 Jan – 9 Feb 2024 with 24 T20 games on the schedule, and we expect it to be as thrilling as the first edition that took place recently.
Seven teams are currently participating in the Kuwait T20 Elite Cup and they are Ceylinco Express CC, Stack CC, Al Hajery Team XI, Kuwait Swedish, Tally DRFS, Almulla Exchange CC, and NCM Investments. The first edition of the tournament was won by Al Mulla Exchange CC when they defeated NCM Investments in the Kuwait T20 Cup 2023 final by 77 runs!

In that final, they batted first and scored a whopping 236/4 in their 20 overs, before bundling out their opponents for a paltry 159 within 18 overs. In that Kuwait T20 Elite Cup 2023 final, it was Naveenraj Rajendran who was the top contributor, falling 5 runs short of a well-deserved century. He put up a 140-run partnership for the opening wicket with Clinto Velookkara Anto, and it was no surprise that the former was awarded the Man of the Match in that final, which they ended up winning by a massive margin of 77 runs.
Al Mulla Exchange will be high on confidence as they move into Season 2 of the Kuwait T20 Elite Cup. They’re defending champions and they know that it wasn’t too long ago that they lifted the silverware too. In Season 2, the same format will be followed of round robin followed by the playoffs, including the eliminator, qualifier, and the final.
