KKR vs RCB Match Cancelled as Covid Hits IPL 2021

The last couple of seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been difficult because of the Covid-19 pandemic which has led to loss of revenues and tougher playing conditions for players too. Bio-secure bubbles have led to mental fatigue among players, while health concerns have also been a massive issue. Now, we’ve had the first game of IPL 2021 being cancelled.

Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier test positive for Covid-19

We’re talking about Match 30 of IPL 2021 which was scheduled for today, 3rd May 2021. There has been official announcement as of now as to why the match has been postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which leads us to believe that it is because of Covid-19 concerns. Today’s game was scheduled to take place between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ahmedabad. Read our KKR vs RCB fantasy preview here.

If we are to remind you, members of both camps had been affected by Covid positive cases at the start of the IPL 2021 season as well. Devdutt Padikkal and Daniel Sams were affected from RCB while Nitish Rana was among those affected from the KKR camp. If reports coming in are to be believed, it is said that the KKR camp has been hit once again, which could mean a major crisis for the entire IPL committee.

It is being said that KKR players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for Covid-19. While Warrier is yet to play  a game this season, Chakravarthy has been a vital part of the side. Other players in the KKR camp are also unwell and are isolating. As further rounds of testing takes place, we could see more KKR players testing positive. See all updates here…

These same reports tell us that BCCI informed Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) about the cancellation of today’s game and while a new date hasn’t been announced yet, it is expected to be rolled out on Monday afternoon itself. Australian players had already raised questions about the effectiveness of the IPL 2021 bubble and a lot more questions will be raised now. Could this lead to the end of the IPL 2021 season itself?!
