Kieron Pollard is 3rd to Hit 6 Sixes in an Over!

3 T20s, 3 ODIs and 3 Tests are scheduled to be played in this Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2021 and the tour began on a super hot note! While the home team West India won the 1st T20I very comfortably by 4 wickets with nearly 7 overs to spare, there were quite a few interesting moments and in fact, record-breaking moments in that game!

Kieron Pollard is 3rd to Hit 6 Sixes in an Over!

After Sri Lanka only managed 131/9 in their 20 overs, it was never going to be easy to defend this total on Caribbean pitches and given the fact that the latter has some of the biggest hitters in world cricket. In the chase, Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis seemed to be in a hurry as well, smashing 48/0 in 3 overs before Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya gave the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Bowling in the powerplay, he bagged a hat-trick in the 4th over and reduced the home team to 57/3 in 4 overs, getting rid of heavyweights like Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. All these players are among the biggest hitting T10 and T20 players in the world and Sri Lanka would’ve fancied their chances after this over, especially with another one going down in the next over to be reduced to 62/4!

However, one man named Kieron Pollard was at the crease and he wanted to make most use of the final powerplay over, where he tore into every delivery that came out of the hand of Dananjaya. He hit the over for 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6 and became only the third person in international cricket to hit 6 sixes in a single over, following Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh.

While Gibbs did it in the 50-over format, Yuvraj and Pollard did so in the T20I format. He made it a very bitter-sweet day for Akila Dananjaya who was on top of the moon with a hat-trick in his second over but he was soon into the history books for all wrong reasons in his third over, being smashed for 36 runs!

Pollard bowed his head down in the direction of the West Indies dug-out as a celebration as he joined an elite club for this record. It was only in the next over where Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Pollard and he was on a hat-trick himself, reducing Windies to 101/6 but it was too little too late by that point of time.
