See Kasun Rajitha Bowl Harmison-Like Wide!

The level of cricketers playing international cricket is very high and it’s taken them years of practice and training to reach that level. However, sometimes even the best of international cricketers mess up, which makes for fun viewing, if not at crucial moments of a game. We witnessed one such moment in the ongoing 2022 Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka.

After being bowled out for 222 on the first day of the 1st Test, Sri Lanka had to come out and defend this total and try to concede as little as a 1st innings deficit as possible. But instead of hitting their marks right away, we saw a shocker to begin with as Kasun Rajitha bowled one of the biggest wides you would’ve ever seen in international cricket.

Kasun Rajitha bowls Harmison-like wide

It wasn’t the best of starts from the 28-year old Sri Lankan pacer who was opening the bowling with the new ball. Just the second ball of the first over went for a boundary and then, what was supposed to be the third ball of the over, turned out to be a shocking delivery indeed. He bowled a massive wide down leg-side which went on to run away for five wides as well.

The immediate reaction that the commentators and netizens had was that the wide was as bad as Steve Harmison’s wide, which was bowled far outside the off-stump, far enough for the wicket-keeper to miss it and the first slip to collect it. The only difference with the Rajitha wide was that it was down legside and that it even ran away for a boundary in byes.

This attempted short of a length delivery went horribly wrong as Rajitha lost control and allowed Pakistan some free runs as they began their 1st innings at Galle. But the bowler immediately called for someone to repair the landing area as it seemed there was something wrong with it. A member of the groundstaff was there with a hammer in no time.

However, he made up for this mess with some really good bowling in the rest of his opening spell. It was in the 7th over when he struck for the first time to reduce Pakistan for 12/1. He hit Imam-ul-Haq on the pads and the batter was dismissed for just 2 runs, and he lost his opening partner Abdullah Shafique in the 15th over, with Pakistan at 21/2.

That’s the latest update we have from the scoreboard at the time of us writing this articles. Rajitha ended his first spell with 1/11 after 5 overs and that was a great comeback after an expensive first over itself. Let’s see i he can go on to take a few more wickets, or whether the spinners will dominate this game.
