It’s been a really tough IPL 2021 season for Australian south paw opener David Warner so far. In 6 matches, he’s only managed 193 runs and while that’s not too bad, he’s struggled at the crease and hasn’t had the usual fluency that you would expect from him. He’s managed 2 fifties so far but both have been very scratchy knocks, especially the last one where he seemed very frustrated with himself.
To add to that, it’s been a crappy season for the franchise as well, as Sunrisers Hyderabad has only managed 1 victory in 6 games so far in IPL 2021, currently at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table. It has been one of their worst starts to a season in their IPL history and today, they’ve made the harsh call of sacking Warner as captain and replacing him with New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson.

Sacking your skipper in the middle of a season doesn’t show that you have too much faith in your leader. In fact, this was evident when Warner made a comment about him not liking the team management decision of not picking Manish Pandey in the side, in a post-match interview once. Clearly, there seems to be some bad blood running in the SRH camp.
“SunRisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow’s match and for the remainder of IPL 2021. The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals,” said SRH in a press release.
In fact, there’s also speculation about Warner being dropped from the side for the upcoming clash against Rajasthan on 2nd May 2021. Warner has been one of the highest run scorers in IPL history and it’s unlikely that they would sack him over just a few games of poor form.
