WATCH: Jonny Bairstow Walks Out of Crease, Gets Run OUT

We’ve seen some good, bad, and funny moments in cricket over the years but it’s not too often that you’ll see what we’ve been witnessing in Ashes 2023 so far. England vs Australia is always entertaining and today on Day 5 of the 2nd Test at Lord’s, we had another controversial moment, following the controversial catch of Mitchell Starc at the end of Day 4 as well.

This time, it was wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow as the man in question. Cameron Green was bowling the 52nd over of the final innings of the game, which Bairstow ducked and decided to just walk out of his crease, as the over was done. However, the wicket-keeper Alex Carey throw at the stumps and hit timber too, with the Aussies then going up in celebrations…

Jonny Bairstow run out goes viral

It’s been an extraordinary Test match for sure, but whether this was out or not will surely be debated for a few days or weeks now. Bairstow was an important man in this chase and he was the last recognised batsman too, which means it was a crucial wicket as well. All credit must surely go to the wicket-keeper, Carey, as presence of mind is always important. See the immediate reaction from Jofra Archer here:

As per the laws of the game, the ball is still in play until the umpire calls for the end of the over, which he didn’t. The players check for the appeal, they went upstairs to the third umpire, and it didn’t take too long before the OUT decision was given on the big screen. Bairstow didn’t like it but he slowly trudged off the field after the decision.

The ball was still live because it wasn’t called ‘over’, so a lot of experts may question the lazy cricketing approach from Bairstow. Loud boos emerged from all across the stadium but it wasn’t against the laws of the game. From there on, a few conversations took place between players from the two teams, and everyone was very charged up post the Bairstow dismissal. Take a look at the Bairstow run out video here:

One thing that happened because of the dismissal is that captain Ben Stokes woke up and started playing an aggressive game, so the Lord’s crowd didn’t take too long to forget what happened with Bairstow. He hit a few boundaries and let Australia know that the home team is still in the contest. At the time of writing this, England were 243/6 with 128 runs still needed to draw the series 1-1.

Stokes is the man for big stages and we won’t be surprised if we come back with news of England winning the 2nd Test match as well. For all updates on Ashes 2023 and for similar sports and cricket news and updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
