Why Was Jitesh Sharma Present at IPL 2024 Captain’s Photoshoot?

Today, images of the IPL 2024 captain’s photoshoot surfaced online and it led to a lot of revelations. Firstly, the big news of Chennai Super Kings appointing Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain came out because MS Dhoni was not present at the photoshoot. Parallelly, CSK announced that MSD stepped down and passed on the reins to CSK’s future, who has been groomed well under Dhoni over the years.

Another good news was Rishabh Pant present for Delhi Capitals, indicating that he’s likely to play right through the IPL 2024 season, back after his horrific car accident last year. However, the most surprising of all was seeing wicket-keeper batsman Jitesh Sharma near the IPL 2024 trophy, in his Punjab Kings jersey. Ideally, it should’ve been Shikhar Dhawan there instead of Jitesh. .

Jitesh Sharma is Punjab Kings captain?

Everyone’s wondering now if Jitesh Sharma is the new Punjab Kings captain, and we’ll address that question on this page here. It was made clear by all the posts that Shikhar Dhawan will continue to captain the Punjab franchise and that Jitesh was only there to represent him, the latter 30-year old being recently appointed as the vice-captain of the side.

The team appointed Jitesh as the vice-captain just today, enforcing the fact that they will stay with Dhawan as the captain for the IPL 2024 season. Dhawan was just absent from the IPL 2024 captain’s photoshoot, unavailable because of some commitment that we’re not sure of as yet.

It was surprising to see this appointment because the Vidarbha batsman made his debut for Punjab Kings only in 2022 and has played 26 IPL games since then, with not a single fifty to his name as yet. Over the last year, he’s gone on to represent Team India as well, so it’s been a good year for him in terms of his career.

However, he’s yet to prove himself for this franchise, getting a best score of 49* in 14 games in IPL 2023. He’s given them good starts but no defining knocks as yet. With 309 runs last season at a strike rate of 156+, we’re hoping to see some improvements in his numbers after being appointed as vice-captain of the team.
