Jhye Richardson Gets Bloody Nose Celebrating BBL 11 Win

Nearly two months after it kicked off, the Big Bash League 2021/22 season finally came to an end today and it was Perth Scorchers who ended victorious in the BBL Finals 2022. To be honest, it wasn’t even a well-fought contest but a one-sided one as Scorchers destroyed Sydney Sixers, bowling out the latter for a sub-100 score to win the championship.

And as soon as the game ended, we saw some wild celebrations from the Scorchers cricketers on the field. One moment in particular was that of fast bowler Jhye Richardson who seemed to have copped a blow to the face during these initial celebrations, thus running around the field with a bloody nose.

It’s something that would’ve been bitter sweet for him because it would’ve been painful but at the same time, he’s super happy to have won the title for his team. Richardson got the last wicket to fall and apparently, it was New Zealand’s Colin Munro who came running at him from the boundary to celebrate, and it may have been a shoulder to face moment there.

Part of the broadcasting team, Brad Hodge was quick to run on the ground with his microphone and catch Richardson for an interview. The latter revealed that it was Munners (Munro) who got him in the face. Richardson was quickly thrown a hand towel to wipe the blood off his face, which he did while the interview was on.

It wasn’t long before it was time for the presentation and all the families were o the field with their players. And when we caught a view of Richardson by then, he seemed to have been cleaned up. Munro’s family was running around while captain Ashton Turner was also seen celebrating with his wife and kids.

Batting first, Scorchers were in trouble early on at 26/4 but it was the most amazing recovery by captain Ashton Turner and the eventual man of the match Laurie Evans. They put up 170+ and bowled the Scorchers out for 92! Richardson seemed to be having a hearty laugh while talking about it during his interview with Hodge as well. See here:

And by winning, Scorchers became the first Big Bash League franchise to have won the title on four different occasions. And an interesting stat to have come in was that they beat Sydney Sixers all four times in the finals and this year, they beat Sixers in all four encounters as well. For someone like Mitchell Marsh, this title comes a couple of wins after he won the T20 World Cup 2021 with Australia as well.
