IPL 2023 – Marco Jansen Bowls Massive No Ball Against Gujarat

Thoughts went back to England vs Pakistan today in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season today. We’re talking about comparisons with Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir who bowled a number of no balls in a Test series in England. Today, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Marco Jansen was struggling with rhythm and bowled a few overstepped deliveries himself.

The South African bowler is one of the most expensive overseas picks for SRH at IPL 2023 but he hasn’t proved to be as useful this year to the side. Today was an important clash against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad and Jansen was having an off day, which included bowling 8 wides and 2 no balls within his first 3 overs itself, which went for 32 runs (and no wicket).

IPL 2023 - Marco Jansen Bowls Massive No Ball Against Gujarat

Marco Jansen bowls big no balls against GT

We’ve seen several no balls in the IPL 2023 tournament so far but we don’t think any of them were bigger than this one, which came in Jansen’s third and most expensive over of the innings. It was the 11th over of the Gujarat Titans innings with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill being two set batsmen at the crease. The third ball of the over was this massive NO BALL!

Firstly, the ball was paddle swept by Sudharsan for six over fine leg and to make matters worse for the bowler, the alarm went off to signal a no ball from the third umpire. When the replays showed up on the big screen, we also got to see how big the overstep was from Jansen. This triggered quite a few different reactions from the commentators and the fans watching from around the world too.

The immediate reactions on Twitter were those that compared the no ball with the Mohammad Amir ones all those years ago. While we don’t think there’s any foul play involved at all, Twitter users had other opinions. Maybe it’s got to do with the fact that the very next delivery after the no ball was a wide. This was then followed by the free hit which was dropped on the boundary and parried over for four too.

Jansen gave away 15 runs in that horrific over but he kind of redeemed himself when he was brought back to bowl the 15th over of the GT innings. He picked up the wicket of Sudharsan on the first ball of the over and ended with only 7 runs being conceded in that over. Jansen finished with 1/39 on the day, but these no balls won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Jansen will be looking to redeem himself in the remaining fixtures for Sunrisers in IPL 2023, or maybe even with the bat later in today’s chase against Gujarat. For similar updates from IPL 2023 and other cricketing news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
