IPL 2023 – Krunal Pandya & Deepak Hooda Share Hug

Today was a crucial game at IPL 2023 – that of Lucknow Super Giants vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – and LSG was looking to get another win at their home turf. They bowled brilliantly on this slow pitch and restricted SRH to only 121 in their 20 overs, thanks to their spinners. All of them contributed, including Krunal Pandya who picked 3 wickets in his 4 overs.

Amit Mishra also picked up a couple of wickets while the off-spin part-time option of Deepak Hooda was also used during the SRH innings. Eventually, it was an easy chase for the hosts, finishing it off with 5 wickets to spare and a complete 4 overs still to be bowled. And the most special moment of the game was seen after the match was over.

As soon as the match was done, images of the two teams shaking hands were shown. And among those visuals were the Man of the Match Krunal Pandya walking over to hug his teammate, Deepak Hooda. For all who don’t know, the two share a controversial history and haven’t known to be very good with each other, thanks to issues in the domestic circuit.

During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, things got nasty between the two Baroda teammates, where Hooda publicly accused Pandya of abusing him and threatening to end his career as well. Krunal was Baroda captain at the time and Hooda accused him of doing so in front of teammates and another state team in Vadodara.

What followed was Hooda pulling out of the Baroda state team after refusing to practise with the side. He received a suspension for the rest of the season from Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) and that saw him leave the team and join Rajasthan Ranji Team after 6 months. The issues was very public but soon later died down.

However, it came back to the fore after the IPL 2022 Auction where Hooda and Krunal were picked to play for the same franchise, Lucknow Super Giants, which was set to make their debut in IPL 2022. Mentor Gautam Gambhir told the press that they’re professional and that they would get along perfectly. Proof of that is today’s images after their win over SRH:

“Brothers do fight” was a statement given about their relationship during IPL 2022 and there’s reason to believe they sorted out their problems last season itself. Both of them played a big role in LSG’s win today (their second in a row at home) and they’ll have to remain being highly professional if they want to help their side secure their first ever trophy at IPL 2023.

Hooda bowled 0/8 in 1 over and scored 7(8) with the bat along with a couple of important catches in today’s game. For more updates on similar cricketing stories from IPL 2023 and other major sports events, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
