IPL 2022 – Umran Malik Bowls 4-Wicket Maiden

You hear of big names playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but this year, we’re seeing a number of newer faces and uncapped players doing brilliantly in this edition. And today, we had IPL 2022 Match 28 where Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing Punjab Kings in Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Academy.

Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umran Malik has been a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp since last season where he played only a handful of games. This year so far, he has been one of their best bowlers, being one of only three players retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022. And he’s repaying the faith brilliant with many wickets including a 4-fer in today’s outing.

IPL 2022 - Umran Malik Bowls 4-Wicket Maiden

Umran Malik – 4-wicket maiden!

It’s not too often that bowlers want to bowl the final over of a T20 innings because you’ll see the biggest fours and sixes being hit in the final few overs. Today, this youngster from J&K took the ball and did something unexpected as he took three wickets of his own including one run out and bowled a very rare 4-wicket maiden.

He started the over with a dot ball to Odean Smith and then got him out caught and bowled on the second delivery. Another dot followed to the new batsman Rahul Chahar before he uprooted his stumps on the fourth ball. He came in quick and repeated the same on the fifth ball of the over, cleaning up Vaibhav Arora in the process. On the final ball, Umran missed the hat-trick but Arshdeep Singh was run out!

While he missed his individual hat-trick, the team went on to complete their hat-trick with the run out on the final ball. And he broke quite a few records in his spell of 4/28 as well. Umran Malik became only the second bowler to get two caught and bowled dismissals in a single IPL game, after Harbhajan Singh did so in IPL 2011.

Additionally, he also became only the third ever bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to effect a maiden in the final over of an innings. This comes after Irfan Pathan did so in IPL 2008 and Jaydev Unadkat did the same in IPL 2017 as well. From these, Umran is the only bowler to do so in the first innings of a game.

He’s impressed one and all so far in the IPL 2022 season and this particular game will have to be his best in his short IPL career so far. Trained by the legendary Dale Steyn who also spent some time playing for SRH in past years, he has a good mentor and is one of the few Indian bowlers who can bowl consistently above 150+ km/hour.

This and much more is expected to take place as we’re still not even halfway through the IPL 2022 season. So for similar cricket and IPL 2022 news and updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
