IPL 2022 – Delhi Capitals Full Squad

Here’s another team that is yet to win a title in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They’ve made the playoffs a few times and even made the finals a few times but that titles is still elusive. However, it’s safe to say that they’ve been the most attacking and fearless and dangerous team in the last few editions of the IPL, with a lot of young blood in the side, which works well in the T20 format.

We’re talking about Delhi Capitals which had one of the youngest captains in the league history and they’ve still managed to do well, reaching the playoffs in IPL 2021 as well. They were the most active bidders at the IPL 2022 Auction, wanting a piece of the action for most/all of the top players, and it’s safe to say that they picked up some ‘steal deals’ in that mega auction too.

Delhi Capitals before IPL 2022 Auction

The biggest release for them was that of former captain Shreyas Iyer (on request) and he moved on to KKR at the IPL 2022 Auction. They retained captain Rishabh Pant who will continue to lead the side in IPL 2022 and they also retained Prithvi Shaw and Axar Patel. The former had a good IPL 2021 after a poor previous season while Axar has been good with the ball, getting a lot of international exposure too.

The fourth retention and the only overseas one is South Africa’s Anrich Nortje who had 22 wickets in 16 games in IPL 2020 and 12 scalps in 8 games in IPL 2021 as well. Being one of the fastest bowlers in the world, he’s been great on Indian pitches and paired well with Kagiso Rabada, with the latter being released from the Delhi Capitals squad as well.

To replace Rabada, they’ve picked up Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman who has all the variations you’d want for a T20 tournament but they also have Lungi Ngidi. It’s going to be one of these two to be the second overseas pacer in the side and we think the Bangladeshi pacer will have the edge over the South African for the IPL 2022 tournament.

David Warner has come to Delhi Capitals after a decade and he’s here at half the pay-cheque he received at IPL 2021 so we think he’s an amazing pick at that price. His Australian colleague Mitchell Marsh also comes here after winning the 2021 T20 World Cup and then also winning the BBL 11 season for Perth Scorchers, so he’s not only in good for but is going to be looking to win them a title too.

Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, KS Bharat, Mandeep Singh, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed, Yash Dhull, Vicky Ostwal, Lungi Ngidi, Tim Seifert, Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Praveen Dubey, Ashwin Hebbar, Ripal Patel.

Among the Indians, their biggest buy would’ve been Shardul Thakur who is known for making things happen with the ball and while he has a best score of only 15 in the IPL, he could be used in a better way too. Yash Dhull and Vicky Ostwal are added to the Delhi Capitals squad after winning the 2022 U-19 World Cup recently too.
